Paper
Griffin Press carries in stock an extensive range of standard book papers from mechanical newsprint to high quality wood-free giving our customers flexibility and fast turn around times. These paper stocks have been carefully selected to ensure that our customers receive the best possible product from our presses. All our papers are FSC or PEFC certified.
Paper Terminology: our papers are described in terms of weight and caliper.
The weight of the paper is measured in grammes per square metre (gsm). The caliper or thickness of the paper is measured in microns or thousandths of a millimetre.
STANDARD BOOK PAPERS USED BY GRIFFIN PRESS:
Bulky News (FSC)
This is a paper similar in quality to Newsprint, but with higher bulking capacities. The combination of good opacity and high bulk enables the use of lesser stock weights, making these stocks the first choice when economy is an issue. Bulky News is commonly used in long run mass market work. Standard Newsprint can also be ordered for special requirements.
Griffin Press holds Bulky News in two standard weights:
* 48gsm - bulking to 103 micron for formats A and B
* 50gsm - bulking to 120 micron for formats A, B, B+ and Demy
Book Cream (FSC)
This is a creamy shade of stock, specifically made for book production. It features even quality and shade with high bulk and opacity, which all contribute to superior "readability".
Book Cream is used extensively in "Read for Pleasure" books.
Griffin Press holds this stock in three standard weights:
* 60gsm - bulking to 120 microns for formats B,B+, Demy, C and C+
* 60gsm - bulking to 140 microns for C format only
* 70gsm - bulking to 140 microns for formats: B,B+, Demy, C and C+
* 80gsm - bulking to 160 microns for formats: C
Bulky White
This is a European made paper designed for book production. It is a white mechanical stock and is ideal for use when bulk and opacity are critical to the finished product.
Griffin Press holds this stock in :
* 60gsm - bulking to 106 microns for all standard formats.
* 70gsm - bulking to 140 microns for formats B, B+, Demy, C and C+
White Offset (PEFC)
This is a premium quality offset paper, for use when high standards of text and half tone reproduction are required. It is a brilliant white shade and offers good opacity and bulk.
Griffin Press holds minimum stocks of the following weights, so availability must always be checked:
* 80gsm - bulking to 100 micron for formats B+, A5, Demy, C and C+
* 90gsm - bulking to 111 micron for formats B+, Demy, C and C+
* 100gsm - bulking to 120 micron for format C.
NB: Other paper stocks can be ordered but are subject to minimum tonnes and indent times often not suited to the demands of read for pleasure book production and the fast turnaround times required.
